Description

In this workshop, children will learn about:

  • Unique body features and adaptations of the animal
  • Dietary requirements
  • House-keeping and grooming
  • Basic animal behaviour, handling, and how to approach a pet animal in public

Activity highlights include:

  • Hands-on experience with using real pet care items (eg: choosing appropriate items and building suitable homes)
  • Learning to choose appropriate pet diets by comparing pet foods and ingredients
  • Pet animal interaction* and practise reading animal behaviour

*Due to safety and animal welfare considerations, live animals may or may not be used during the teaching of all workshops. A classroom environment can be stressful for an animal and studies have shown that replacements, such as puppetry and animal models can achieve similar learning outcomes. Where live animals are used, the activity will be under the direct supervision and instruction of a veterinarian to ensure the welfare of the animal and safety of the class. The participants’ amount of direct interaction with the animal is not guaranteed. We seek your understanding that in introducing the exciting world of animals to our children, safeguarding animal welfare and our participants’ safety remains an important priority to us and something which we wish to inculcate in our participants during our class.
